Letter from Mrs. Skahan 2-12-18

February 12, 2018

Springfield Catholic High School Families,

Good afternoon hope everyone is safe and warm.

Not sure of the status of tomorrow yet. We will make that call later in the day.  We will not have school on Presidents’ Day though.  The only change I will make at this point will be to move final exams to Wednesday-Friday, May 23-25.  We will have regular classes on May 21 & 22.

FBLA competed in the District Leadership Competition at MSU with 9 teams placing in the top 5! Congratulations to Mikayla Sullivan, Paige Neff, and Haylee Ball for qualifying for state in Digital Video Production!

This week begins the season of Lent. We will have mass at 9:00 AM on Wednesday.  All parents are invited to attend.  Students should be in Mass dress attire.  Bishop Rice has asked all the schools in the Springfield-Cape Girardeau Diocese to help with purchasing a tiny house for the mentally or physically disabled homeless Edens Village.  Theology teachers will be explaining the project during classes.  A tiny house costs $30,000.  We will take up a collection before mass for this project and we will do other fundraising for this project during the next forty days.  Please read the attached information.

Other Lenten opportunities will be prayer services,  an additional weekly mass before school, penance and encouraging our students to fast and abstain from eating meat on Fridays during Lent.

Library Media Center has plans in the works for new activities for the LMC makerspace.  Irish Ingenuity Discover Days are “real life” activities not typically found in the regular academic curriculum.  Students have chosen topics they are interested in such as:  photography, dog training, cake/cookie decorating, self-defense, car repairs, and jewelry making to name a few.  Volunteers are welcomed for leading info-sessions.  Please email Ms Melanie Gray (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) in the Library if you are available to lead a “real life” session.

Relay for Life will have a bake sale on Tuesday, February 13th.

There will also be a project graduation meeting for senior parents on March 21st at 7 PM in the school cafeteria.

First Impact is a traffic safety program that educates parents about the Missouri Graduated Drivers License Law.  This is sponsored by the University of Missouri’s School of Medicine.  This program will be presented at SCHS on April 5th at 6:00 PM.

I wish you a great week.  Stay warm.  Looking forward to nice weather on Wednesday & Thursday!  If I can be of any assistance to you, please do not hesitate to call or email me.

Blessings,

Jeanne Skahan
