Student Council

Student Council is a student run organization representing grades K-8 that provides monthly service activities throughout the school year. These fun activities involve the whole student body and help create a sense of community within our school family.

 

Robotics Club

Robotics Club is composed of 5th-8th grade students who meet bi-weekly for practice and to prepare for a competition in the spring. Teams will compete against other local middle school Robotics teams, focusing on coding, design and production of a Legos competition robot.

 

cheerleading

The Jr. High cheerleading squad currently is made up of 7th and 8th graders. The girls work very hard to learn their routines and to lead the fans in the fall for girls’ basketball and during the boys’ winter basketball seasons.

Irish Voices

Irish Voices is a choir of 5th – 8th graders from all Springfield Catholic elementary schools. The St. Agnes School choir meets twice a week before school for a half hour. The choir performs twice a year, Christmas and Spring. All students are welcome to join.

Mass Musicians

Students who are interested in playing a musical instrument at all school Mass are welcome to join this group. Students practice weekly after school. Students are expected to practice outside of school hours.

 

Speech Team

Speech Team is open to 7th & 8th grade students from all three Springfield Catholic elementary schools.  Students are given opportunities  to develop their public speaking skills and compete in a spring speech competition.  This team meets weekly at St. Agnes and offers a fun and supportive environment for students eager to gain confidence in their public speaking abilities.  

 

Science Olympiad

All 7th & 8th grade students are eligible. Science Olympiad is an international non-profit organization devoted to improving the quality of science education, increasing student interest in science and providing recognition for outstanding achievement in science education by both students and teachers. Science Olympiad tournaments are rigorous academic interscholastic competitions that consist of a series of team events, which students prepare for during the year. These challenging and motivational events are well balanced between the various science disciplines of biology, earth science, chemistry, physics and technology. There is also a balance between events requiring knowledge of science concepts, process skills and science applications. In addition, during the day there are open house activities that consist of science and mathematics demonstrations, activities and career counseling sessions conducted by professors and scientists at the host institution occurring concurrently with the events.

Science Olympiad students meet weekly beginning in December. The regional competition is held at Missouri State University and the state competition is held at the University of Missouri in Columbia.

Math Olympiad

Math Olympiad is composed of 4th, 5th and 6th grade students who meet weekly for practice and to prepare for competitions. A team of 12 students attend the annual MCTM Elementary Student Math Regional Contest in the spring held at Drury University.

Math Counts

Math Counts is a national coaching and competition program sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers and NCTM which is designed to stimulate 7th and 8th grade students’ interest and achievement in mathematics. Math Counts meet weekly preparing for Math competitions. Regional competitions are held on a Saturday in February. State level competitions are typically held on a Saturday in March with Nationals on a weekend in May.

Cub Scouts, Boys Scouts, Daisy Girl Scouts & Girl Scouts

There are many Scout programs offered at the various grade levels. Please call the office for information on Scout Leaders. Mileage Club Mileage Club is offered to students in grades 2-8 who enjoy walking or running. Parents sponsor this activity and meet twice each week from 7:30-8:00. Students prepare for two community races each year.

Junior High Sports/Grades 7 & 8

Practices are held at various facilities in the Springfield Catholic Schools; Cross Country-Fall Season, Girls’ Basketball-Fall Season, Girls Volleyball-Fall Season, Boys' Football-Fall Season, Boys’ Basketball-Winter Season, Boys & Girls Track & Field-Spring Season.
